PASAR, Partners Hold First Ever Malasakit Activity for Senior Citizens in Isabel

Isabel, Leyte –  Forty hardworking senior citizens and their spouses in Isabel municipality were given a day of care and appreciation as the first-ever Malasakit activity was successfully implemented in December 16, 2023 at the LLCI gym. The initiative provided free health and wellness services, including massage, haircut, eye check-ups, medical consultations, and essential medicines and vitamins. Additionally, the elderly participants received food and hygiene essentials as part of the program.

The Malasakit activity was a collaborative effort between the Community Relations Office of the Philippine Associated Smelting and Refining Corporation (PASAR), the Dynamic Ladies Towards Progress Inc., and the PASAR Foundation. The initiative aimed to honor the invaluable contributions of senior citizens by addressing their health and wellness needs while also fostering a spirit of community care.

“We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve our elders, who have tirelessly contributed to our community,” said Isabelle Schalkwyk, from DLTPI and the wife of PASAR General Manager. “This activity is a testament to our commitment to promoting the well-being of our senior citizens.”

The day was filled with warmth and gratitude as beneficiaries expressed their appreciation for the services rendered. One of the senior citizens, Patricio Sabino, shared, “This is the first time we have experienced such a thoughtful event dedicated to us. We are thankful to PASAR, Dynamic Ladies Towards Progress, and PASAR Foundation for their kindness and generosity.”
The event also emphasized the importance of senior citizens’ well-being, ensuring that they receive proper medical attention and essential care. Health professionals and volunteers worked together to provide much-needed services, making the activity not just a day of wellness but also of camaraderie and community spirit.

The success of this first Malasakit activity has inspired organizers to explore the possibility of making it a regular program, further strengthening their commitment to supporting the senior citizens of Isabel.
