Isabel, Leyte – November 2023 – The PASAR Foundation, Inc., in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd) Leyte, successfully conducted the English Fair, a two-day complimentary non-classroom academic competition aimed at enhancing literacy skills among students in Isabel. The event, held under the Isabel Literacy Improvement in Math, English, and Science (LIMES) program in the whole month of November 2023, brought together over 600 elementary and high school students from 21 public elementary schools and six secondary schools across the municipality.
The English Fair featured a variety of engaging activities designed to strengthen students’ reading, writing, and speaking abilities. Elementary pupils participated in an oral reading and comprehension test, while learning sessions on story retelling further enriched their literary appreciation. Other competitions included spelling, quiz bee, oral composition and presentation, speech choir, and story retelling, showcasing students’ talents and reinforcing their confidence in using the English language.
A total of around 150 teachers served as coaches and mentors, guiding students through the rigorous competitions. Their dedication, coupled with the enthusiasm of the participants, contributed to the event’s resounding success.
The PASAR Foundation and DepEd Leyte expressed their commitment to sustaining the LIMES program, recognizing the English Fair as a vital initiative in improving literacy skills and academic excellence among young learners in Isabel.
