The Leyte-Samar History and Heritage Forum, held on June 6-7, 2024, in Tacloban City, was a resounding success, attracting over a hundred participants from diverse backgrounds, including students, NGO workers, government personnel, and religious persons. Organized by the Leyte-Samar Heritage Society, Inc., whose chairman of the board is the former chaplain of LIDE Holy Spirit Chapel and teacher at the LIDE Learning Center, Inc. Reverend Monsignor Ramon Stephen B. Aguilos. The forum aimed to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of the region's rich history and cultural heritage. The event featured a wide range of topics, including the history of Sto Niño de Tacloban, the landing of Magellan at Homonhon island, and the guerrilla movement in Leyte-Samar.
The highlight of the forum was the keynote address delivered by National Artist for Literature, Honorable Resil Mojares. Mojares' address was a testament to the region's vibrant cultural heritage and its significance in shaping the country's history. Other notable topics discussed during the forum included heritage cuisine and games, intangible heritage, language, and literature. The event provided a unique opportunity for participants to engage with experts and like-minded individuals, fostering a sense of community and shared passion for preserving the region's cultural legacy.
